Hi, I really liked it! Feels so refreshing to see machinima with a different tool. I'm actually curious about how Moviestorm works!

The scenes are really well built, and I loved the characters and the costumes. Editing was great too, good coloring, voice acting, camera movement, title credits... all the ingredients are there! I loved the action scenes, with pistols, machine guns, cars, and such. I'm actually curious about how they are done, and how they differ to The Movies.

As for the plot, I love a good crime, mobster story, so I was hooked. Reminded me of stuff like Mafia, the game series. I'm really looking forward to seeing the next episode! Great work!

I was kindly surprised that it's just the prologue, but it is almost half an hour long already. I really like full-features done in machinima, so I'd love to watch it again fully when it's finished. How's progress going with the next part? I can't wait Very Happy

Keep up the good work! good aplauso

Ehy ftoons, thanks a lot for your comment! I'm very happy you liked my work!

Talking about Moviestorm, he differ from The Movies in many ways, for what I can remember, with The Movies you are stick with a bunch of preset scene and have to adapt it to your story, with moviestorm instead you have a lot more freedom. No preset scene, just a lot of animation from walking/running to gesture, you can even decide facial expressions, eyemotion, breathing speed and stuff like that. For a lot of that animation you can adjust duration and other minor thing.
You can create your set from scratch, using some props/furniture or, and this is one of the greates things you can do, import easily model from sketchup. With a lot of patient I learn how to create some mod (a lot of costumes, hats, hairs and other things in the movie are created or reworked by me, for example all the guns are model from other games imported in moviestorm by me).

Another thing I remeber with The Movies was the camera, there where no much freedom, like set point A and point B and stop. With Moviestorm you can create all the camera movement you want.
For what you can do now with things like nvidia ominverse, ue4 and stuff like that, moviestorm is old and outdate but it's perfect for those who, like me, don't want to deal with tough softweare like the ones I mentioned.

Obviously it have some limitations, like the fact it was a 32bit only app, so sometimes it drive's you crazy with scene with lot of characters or light and the graphic is old.

Unfortunatly, at the moment, the guys bheind it are working on a similar project called FirstStage that was a vr only softweare. By the way the site still working and you can still buy it/get more information, I leave here the link if you want to know more about.

At the moment I'm creating some costumes/set for the part II and making some reasearch, it's gonna be a slow but funny work.

Again, thanks for your comment and I'll be happy to give you more details about moviestorm if you need it good

Hey JD89,

Your comparisons between MS and The Movies captivated me in a good way.
Here's one who's been using iClone, Character Creator, Cinema4D, Blender, Unreal Engine, and Unity for the last two years.

It is precisely the bunch of preset scene what eases filming. You actually save a lot of time and becomes user-friendly when you don't have to mess with settings. We usually shoot on a bluescreen wide set, load the preset scene, manually the props, and each stage (also converted from Sketchfab and a variety of sites) is loaded as a "propset", so it likely becomes the same process. It's true The Movies "freecam" will not let you move from more of 2 frames, but here's where video-editing takes about. By the pass of time we mastered the game in a way actors do not look clumsy and still these fluent animations are something I didn't see in other "moviemakers", say, GTA, Moviestorm, iClone...

Besides some major limitations, my work these days has been about finding a way to upgrade game graphics. It's a Directx 9c game with a maximum resolution of 1280*1024 (although you can tweak it...) and we've talking about video effects and software for upscaling. Nowaday programs run a variety of volumetric lights and scripts that smooth old models with some ray-tracing technology. Not everything is about scanned high-resolution texture. That's why I'm trying to retopologize game characters, upscale textures and add some external features to The Movies. It would be indeed perfect if we could just load this game into Unity and simply mix animations or scene files with their own pictures (it would be actually possible since now we have animation scripts that you can convert into FBX), but here's again, the difference between modern graphics or playing the game still favours this least in time saving.

Our main drawback is what doesn't look "The Movies" becomes a challenge because we're used to it.
